If You Come At the King, You Best Not Miss/Points of Annoyance By REEDandRAYact Published: January 6, 2008 Print Email Tonight at 9pm is the premier of the fifth and final season of The Wire on HBO. If you live in Baltimore (or anywhere else in the world) you better watch. However, if you're new to the show, do yourself a favor and watch the show from the beginning. It's worth it.
Things that have been bothering me Officials - There’s no denying that officials played a big part in some of the Ravens losses this year (Bengals, Patriots, Browns to name a few). Now I understand that referees aren’t perfect, but there were some atrocious calls in those games. When seeing Raiders players like Warren Sapp getting ejected unjustifiably and Ravens players repeatedly getting unnecessary roughness penalties based on reputation it becomes frustrating.

Ravens Off-season 2008 By REEDandRAYact Published: January 2, 2008 Print Email So the year from hell is finally over and I am trying to be optimistic. For example we have a top 10 pick in the draft. Unfortunately last year I really felt that this team had very few holes, but this year there seem to be glaring weaknesses and aging players at many positions. Here are some steps that I think/hope the team may take in the different areas of the off-season.

Gerome Sapp Arrested for Assualt...With a Twist By REEDandRAYact Published: January 1, 2008 Print Email Although no major sports sites or local sites have r eported the incident, the case file can be seen here (a direct link does not appear to work but you can search by name). The Ravens safety allegedly got into a fight with another man, over a female, on the 28th of December. This, at first, seems like just another case of a Ravens player in trouble with the law until one takes a glance at the person who issued the complaint. A certain Joseph Maese? Yes, it would appear that it was the ex-Ravens long snapper who was on the other side of the fight. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. We will update you with any new information as it arrives. Read More... View Comments (0)
Another Facelift in Baltimore By kho1288 Published: December 31, 2007 Print Email It's been a rough year in Baltimore sports this year. And the cities two franchises are undergoing some major, major facelifts. Most recently to do so are the 5-11 Ravens, who recently finished out the season with a win over the "indifferent Steelers", as ESPN put it.
We don't have much information other than the fact that Billick is gone for sure. But here is the progression of the rumor mill as we know it:

Ugueth Urbina Released From Prison; Attempted Murder Not Banned by MLB By kho1288 Published: December 23, 2007 Print Email A Sidney Satire
Ugueth Urbina in March of 2007 was convicted of Attempted murder, and sentenced to 14 years in prison in his home nation of Venezuela. It was proven that he in fact attacked 5-men on his property with a machete, and then proceeded poured gasoline on them as if to prepare to burn them.
Urbina is now a free man as well as a free agent. He is looking to get back into Major League Baseball and plans to regain his reputation with fans through an apology. It turns out that despite attempted murder (and murder) being frowned upon by the MLB, it was not officially banned until after the incident. This ground breaking realization came after the flood of apologies to the Mitchell report allegations. Andy Pettitte in his confession to using HGH stated that, "If what I did was an error in judgment on my part, I apologize." It appears that Andy is still confused as to whether or not what he had done was actually wrong, but since he is such a nice guy he covers all his grounds and apologizes regardless.
He also points out that:
"Though it was not against baseball rules, I was not comfortable with what I was doing, so I stopped." Here we see that Andy Pettitte in all his wisdom overrides the rules of Major League Baseball, and makes a moral stand against this evil Human Growth Hormone (which is, for the record, misleading with its name). The bottom line is Andy, along with many others were duped. Is it so hard to believe that players such as Gary Sheffield, who is baffled by the complex idea of racism, could be easily confused into taking performance enhancing drugs? We have a conspiracy on our hands. Rick Ankiel and Paul Byrd both on the Mitchell report, had been reported during the 2007 season as guys who took HGH, and as is becoming very common, it was only for an injury and was before the MLB banned the substance.

Where the Mitchell Report Leaves Us By kho1288 Published: December 17, 2007 Print Email ESPN senior columnist Gene Wojciechowski argues that the Mitchell Report was an ill-advised project "doomed" to fail from the beginning. It only accomplished to tell us what we alraedy knew, and instead of facilitating a partnership between the Players Association and the Commisioner's office to thrash the doping issue it widened the gap between the two.
Yesterday I brought up the question of exactly what tangible effect this report will have on the players and their respective organizations. Mr. Wojciechowski answers that it has only further discouraged them from cooperating with commish Selig to eradicate drugs from the league. And he's right. The report was a report: the closest it ever came to initiating action was suggesting that Selig put up "posters" around the clubhouses advising against HGH use.
As long as competition exists, the will and desire to get ahead will always push aside healthier, wiser choices in the sporting world. Let's not forget athletes are humans too, and they know the equation as well as you do: HGH --> Better Fitness --> Outperforming peers --> Big pay day. Is all this then, including the Mitchell report, for naught? Bud Selig continues to hold power over baseball, and he will have the ultimate say in how this dilemma will come to an end. The much maligned report, however, shows the commish and the rest of baseball in a "real", tangible way that people outside the sporting world are ready to make this ugly. The report officially declares that cleaning up will by no means be a neat, feel-good Cinderella story with Giambi and Bonds group hugging Selig live on ESPN while fans wipe away tears.

Haren traded to Diamondbacks, possibly boosting Dodgers offer for Bedard? By kho1288 Published: December 14, 2007 Print Email Dropping by to post this if you haven't already heard. One starter has been taken off the trade market. Oakland Athletics SP Danny Haren and his splitter was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks along with 26 year old prospect Connor Robertson. The A's get a boatload of prospects back in classic Billy Beane fashion: pitchers Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland, Greg Smith, infielder Chris Carter, and outfielders Carlos Gomez and Aaron Cunningham.
The reason I bring this up? Will the Dodgers feel compelled to make a strong movefor Bedard? They'll have a tough time competing with the 1-2 punch of Webb and Haren. This may be the best news for the O's this offseason yet.
